I love that quote from Bob Marley and I believe wholeheartedly that it is true. Knockbacks are a part of life and for some of us, it can feel like we get more than most. In some cases this is true! Life can and will always throw curve balls your way, but it’s how you deal with them that really matters.
For those of you that know me personally, you will know that my journey in life & business has not been easy. Whose is? However, I learned that to succeed I needed to master my own mental strength. Once mastered though you still need to train your brain to stay on top of it just like anything else you do.
I have found that one of the best ways for me to stay mentally strong is to deal with the interference and the rest will fall into place as long as you work hard.
It’s a simple equation: PERFORMANCE = POTENTIAL – INTERFERENCE
Let me explain.
Your potential, we all have the potential to do great things we just need to believe in ourselves. Read my blog on Sebastien to help you with this. Alongside sharpening up our skill sets and knowledge in whatever area we require.
Your Interference. Now, this is the Biggy!
Interference generally means emotional interference. We may understand our true potential, but our performance suffers because our emotions get in the way. Some of the interfering emotions are fear, guilt, and worry…
Well, these were some of mine anyway…
FEAR – The fear of failure to me when I inherited my father’s business was debilitating, to say the least. How am I going to run a six-figure company by myself? I now know that I can and that all FEAR stands for is False Expectations Appearing Real.
GUILT – What if I’m not a good mum to my children because I’m so focused on making this business work. How will I manage my time? I now understand that time cannot be managed it’s what you do with the time that you need to manage.
WORRY – Wasting time and energy worrying about what could go wrong or what other people do, say or think. None of which I am in control of. I mainly worried what other family members would think of me and that they would compare me to my Dad and Grandad. I’ve since taken the opinion that what other people think of me is none of my business!
No matter what your situation is or what is holding you back from reaching your true potential, start by cutting out as much interference as possible and great things will start to happen.
