The to-do list is building up and jobs are continually being added, the clock is ticking and there doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day.

Are you feeling stressed?

Need help with dealing with stress?

Hopefully these small tips could help you pull yourself out from your stressful lifestyle and put you back onto the straight and narrow.

The first step to reducing, or hopefully eliminating your stress levels is to identify what or who causes the stress in your life. Look at your stress-inducing thoughts, your feelings and behaviours. Look closely at your habits, attitudes and excuses.

Can you remember the last time you had a break?

Starting a stress journal could be a great help. When you feel like you are ready to burst, write it down.

Include:
–What you believe caused the stress,
-How you feel both physically and emotionally,
-How you acted and responded,
-And what you did to make yourself feel better.

Doing this can hopefully help you pinpoint what is the culprit is, and evaluate what you can do to help yourself.

Everybody copes with stress in many different ways. Such as smoking, drinking, over/under-eating, filling up every day to avoid situations and taking stress out on others. These may make you feel better at the time but can have long term problems and health issues.

Learning your limits and knowing what you are capable of doing in the time scale in which you have to do it is a must!

Writing a to-do list and giving yourself a time scale could be a greater use to you as you can analyse or schedule responsibilities and daily tasks which in turn means that you don’t have to focus on a thousand things at the same time.

Avoid people and conversations that stress you out. If there is a certain topic that you get hot under the collar just thinking about, attempt to avoid it in conversation with others, or stay away from certain people that may push your buttons until you are capable of dealing with them.

Also cutting out certain activities from your life and environment, such as busy grocery shopping, or traffic routes could be the first step. Attempt online shopping, and alter your route to work. These may be small trivial things but a little change of something small could be the first rung on the ladder of stress management and maybe make it easier for you to concentrate on something else without having this thought leering in the back of your mind.

Escaping from work when you return home could also help i.e going for a walk, calling a friend, taking a bath, having a massage, reading a book and playing with a pet or writing a journal could help to take your mind off work. Switching off to help you to look at the bigger picture can also be a good thing, as sometimes, if you are really struggling to continue with a task, take a break and get back into it with a fresh mind set. This can help you to progress further than if you stuck at it the first time.

Stress isn’t good for anyone. It can lead to health issues and unhappy lifestyles, so the sooner you can identify and eliminate stress the better. Stress affects one in five of the working population and over 105 million days are lost to stress each year, so any way in which you can reduce your stress levels can greatly improve your life. We hope that this blog has given you something to think about and could potentially help you at any time in the future.
